Module Details

Introduction

In the introduction to Socality Photography you will meet your teachers, learn more about their background, and be introduced to the layout and details of the course.

Gear

What camera should I buy? It’s a question asked frequently, and through this module we not only want to answer the question, but also dive more in depth into understanding the elements that make up a camera.

Settings

Understanding how to set your ISO, shutter speed, and aperture are key factors in capturing the best image possible. In this module, you’ll learn the basics of adjusting for all the major settings along with where to find them on the camera and suggestions for specific situations.

Light

The most important thing in photography is light; it can make or break a photo. In this module, we will take you on location during sunrise, mid-day, and sunset to better understand how light influences your images. You’ll also learn about properly exposing an image and working with your histogram.

Composition

Rule of thirds, leading lines, and scale are a few compositional tools presented in this module. Understanding how to frame a subject will dramatically enhance the outcome of a photo. On location you will learn more specifics about composition and the importance of story and see the teachers critique each others’ images.

Editing

Post-processing is everything that happens after you click the shutter button. In this module, Tanner takes you through an in-depth look at editing, specific editing styles, when and when not to edit, and why it’s important in the process of image making. You will also pick up some useful tips for using Adobe Lightroom.

Social & Sharing

Getting your photos into the world is a scary and sometimes overwhelming idea, but if you want to become better, outside critique is vital. Through the lens of sharing through social media, you’ll learn our top 10 tips to enhancing your social media, best practices, and its role in community building.

Mobile Photography

“It’s not the camera, it’s the photographer” is a motto we whole-heartedly believe. While not everyone has a DSLR, most have access to a mobile phone camera. In this module, we will give you a hands-on look at shooting and editing on a phone and recommended accessories to take your photos to the next level.

Q&A/Conclusion

In the conclusion to Socality Photography, we answer a number of important questions about photography. From the experience of our three teachers you will hear valuable insights that will help you succeed whether you are a just starting out or looking to advance in the industry.

Testimonials

Willow from Seattle, WA

“As a complete beginner to photography this course really helped me get a solid grasp on what all the terminology meant and taught me how to take high-quality pictures. I think it’s a great start for anyone who is new to photography and could even be helpful for some of the people that have been doing it for a while.” –@willowfantino

Steven from Houston, TX

“Most online photography courses are taught by people that are hard to relate to and pretty much stay put in a studio the whole time… Socality Photography is taught by peers doing what I want to do as a career, who got out in the field and showed me how to take more creative, beautiful shots. Now, I feel more confident and prepared to head out and not only take better pictures, but also land better clients!” – @stevenbwallace

Chloe from Calgary, AB

“This program is by far one of the best intro photography programs out there. It is extremely user friendly, and the visuals it uses helps to demonstrate the concepts perfectly. It gives you an insight into the secrets that professional photographers are scared to share, and at the same time encourages creativity and individuality. This program has helped me tremendously, and I am confident will do the same for you. I would recommend this program to anybody who wants to learn photography, or improve their already established photography skills and outlook when looking to create.” – @snappy_chappie

FAQ

Socality has always been about creating community for purpose. One of our main objectives has been the development and advancement of artists that want to use their art for social change. We created this course to be a resource for the community and at the same time create a way to sustain our organization and fulfill our mission of connecting others, building communities and empowering artists. A percentage of proceeds will be directed to the establishment of the Socality Foundation which will fund community initiatives and provide grants to artists. If you want to contribute towards these efforts we have created the option to “pay what you want” over the minimum $29 price. Your support helps us create more resources and allows us to continue building into communities and increase our impact for causes that matter.
